Ein bildlicher Streifzug durch dAS HERZ der Stadt

Bereits im Januar haben wir uns mit der Reihe “Berlin, wie wir es heute kennen” mit der Identität des Berlins der Gegenwart beschäftigt und haben versucht, den Weg der Stadt nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs fotografisch nachzuzeichnen.
Diese Betrachtung wollen wir nun gern fortsetzen und werfen dabei einen sehr lohnenswerten Blick auf das Instagram Portal “typisch.berlin“, welches frei von thematischen oder inhaltlichen Zwängen äußerst gelungene Schnappschüsse des heutigen Berlins einfängt und präsentiert.
“Typisch Berlin” – Was heißt das eigentlich?
“Typisch Berlin“ist eine Phrase, eine Aussage, die man häufig hört, und das nicht nur in Berlin selbst. Die deutsche Hauptstadt hat längst national und international ihr ganz eigenes, nicht immer positives, Image entwickelt.
Unabhängig von Image und Klischees aber geht es in den Bildern auf “typisch.berlin” eher darum, einen unverstellten aber nicht minder schönen Blick auf das zu werfen, was das Leben in Berlin ausmacht – allerdings ohne die sonst so Instagram-typische, süß-klebrige Überzeichnung und Verfremdung der Fotos.
Ein Blick auf Berlin, fernab von Klischee und Image
In dem umfangreichen Bilderwerk wechseln sich Bilder von Bausünden der 70er Jahre mit Straßenszenen aus dem Prenzlauer Berg ab, wird ein Blick auf den einstigen, längst überwucherten Todesstreifen oder kreativ gestaltete Plattenbaufassaden geworfen. Und nicht selten fragt man sich selbst als alteingesessener Berliner: “Wo ist das nur?”
Genau das macht das Werk so spannend. Es zeigt uns die Stadt fernab von touristischen Fixpunkten und medialen Schablonen. “typisch.berlin” gelingt es dabei auf unaufgeregte Art und Weise, das urbane, manchmal raue, immer reizvolle Lebensgefühl einzufangen, welches das Leben und Arbeiten in dieser weiten Stadt ausmacht.

Und es führt uns gleichzeitig vor Augen, wie anders die Stadt doch geworden ist, seit sie, wie viele andere Städte weltweit, unter den Folgen der Corona-Pandemie leidet.
Die von vielen Besuchern und Neu-Berlinern häufig als ungemütlich und ungreifbar empfundene Stadt hat natürlich ihre entspannten, romantischen und eben gemütlichen Ecken und Kieze. Diesem Teil der Hauptstadt widmen wir uns im zweiten Teil der Serie, erneut mit den wunderschönen Fotos von “typisch.berlin”. Zum ersten Teil der Serie geht es hier.

PART 2
A PICTORIAL TOUR THROUGH THE HEART OF THE CITY
Back in January, we took a look at the identity of contemporary Berlin in our series “Berlin as we know it today” and tried to photographically trace the city’s path after the end of the Second World War.
We would now like to continue this reflection and take a very worthwhile look at the Instagram portal “typisch.berlin“, which captures and presents extremely successful snapshots of today’s Berlin, free of thematic or content-related constraints.
“TYPICAL BERLIN” – WHAT DOES THAT ACTUALLY MEAN?
“Typisch Berlin” is a phrase, a statement that one hears frequently, and not only in Berlin itself. The German capital has long since developed its very own, not always positive, image both nationally and internationally.
Regardless of image and clichés, however, the pictures on “typisch.berlin” are more about taking an undisguised but no less beautiful look at what life in Berlin is all about – albeit without the sweetly tacky exaggeration and alienation of the photos that is otherwise so typical of Instagram.
A LOOK AT BERLIN, FAR AWAY FROM CLICHÉ AND IMAGE
In the extensive body of images, pictures of building sins of the 1970s alternate with street scenes from Prenzlauer Berg, a look is taken at the former, long overgrown death strip or creatively designed slab building facades. And not infrequently, even as a long-established Berliner, one wonders, “Where is this?”
This is precisely what makes the work so exciting. It shows us the city far away from tourist fixed points and media templates. In an unagitated way, “typisch.berlin” succeeds in capturing the urban, sometimes rough, always charming feeling of life that makes up living and working in this vast city.
UNAGITATED AND CHARMING: “TYPISCH.BERLIN”
And at the same time it shows us how different the city has become since it, like many other cities around the world, has suffered the consequences of the Corona pandemic.
The city, often perceived by many visitors and new Berliners as uncomfortable and intangible, has of course its relaxed, romantic and just cozy corners and neighborhoods.
