Teil 4: “Vor 20 Jahren: Baustelle Berlin” (2017)
Seit 1993 bemühte sich ein gigantisches Heer von Investoren, Architekten und Bauarbeitern, den Mythos Potsdamer Platz wiederzubeleben.
Neun Millionen Tonnen Bauschutt wurden beiseitegeschafft, um aus dem Areal zwischen Potsdamer Platz und Reichstag wieder das zu machen, was es einmal war: das Machtzentrum der deutschen Hauptstadt.
Europas größte Baustelle
Diese Spiegel Dokumentation aus dem Jahre 2017 ermöglicht einen faszinierenden und intensiven Rückblick auf das, was in den 90er Jahren Europas größte Baustelle war.
Vom Spreebogen, dem heutigen Regierungsviertel, bis hin zum heutigen Gleisdreieckpark befand sich eine gigantische Baulandschaft, die in der bewegten Geschichte Berlins wohl einzigartig bleiben wird.
Die Spiegel-Dokumentation schließt an an den ersten Teil unserer Filmreihe, die Dokumentation “Berlin Babylon” aus dem Jahr 2000 und weitet den Blick in das wilde und im Aufbruch befindliche Berlin der Nachwendejahre, in dem das Gesicht der heutigen Weltmetropole konzipiert und umgesetzt wurde.

Since 1993, a gigantic army of investors, architects and construction workers strove to revive the myth of Potsdamer Platz.
Nine million tons of construction debris were hauled aside to make the area between Potsdamer Platz and the Reichstag once again what it once was: the power center of the German capital.
EUROPE’S LARGEST CONSTRUCTION SITE
This 2017 Spiegel documentary provides a fascinating and intense look back at what was Europe’s largest construction site in the 1990s.
From the Spreebogen, now the government district, to today’s Gleisdreieckpark, there was a gigantic construction landscape that will probably remain unique in Berlin’s turbulent history.
The Spiegel documentary follows on from the first part of our film series, the documentary “Berlin Babylon” from 2000, and widens the view into the wild and awakening Berlin of the post-reunification years, in which the face of today’s global metropolis was conceived and realized.
