Schulbauoffensive: Berliner Senat beauftragt Generalplaner

ENGLISH VERSION: BELOW

So sollen sogenannte 4-zügige Schulen inklusive Sporthallen entstehen.

As the Senate Department for Urban Development announced yesterday (Thursday), the state of Berlin has commissioned a company as general planner for the implementation of the much-vaunted school construction offensive.

12 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO BE BUILT ACROSS THE CITY

The goal of this approach is to be able to build a standard building type at a total of 12 locations in Berlin, and to do so within a short period of time due to the specified building types. Thus, so-called 4-track schools including gymnasiums are to be built. The sports halls are to be an integral part of each school construction project.

The basis of the type designs is to be a modular construction method, which is to speed up the construction of the schools considerably. Recurring building components that can be used for both the school building and the various gymnasiums will allow extensive prefabrication of the building components, according to the Senate administration.

MODULAR CONSTRUCTION FORMS THE BASIS FOR RAPID IMPLEMENTATION

As part of an architectural competition, the Berlin-based architectural firm Bruno Fioretti Marquez was selected in December 2018. According to the office’s designs, the future elementary schools are now to be implemented.

The contract for the planning and construction implementation of the designs was awarded last Tuesday to the company “Klebl GmbH” from Neumarkt (Rhineland-Palatinate). The company had prevailed in a Europe-wide invitation to tender.

FRAMEWORK AGREEMENT AS BASIS FOR STANDARDIZED SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION

The contract is now based on a framework agreement from which the elementary schools and three different types of sports halls can be ordered. The sports halls are differentiated into 3- and 6-field sports halls, equipped with either a gallery or a grandstand. They can be built on the land combined with the schools, depending on the needs of the district.

The outdoor facilities associated with the school ensemble, such as the schoolyard, recreational areas and athletic fields, are each to be bid out separately and constructed after the buildings are completed.

SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION OFFENSIVE HAS BEEN UNDERWAY FOR SEVERAL YEARS

Senate Building Director and State Secretary Regula Lüscher commented as follows on the awarding of the contract: “The new construction of the 4-stream elementary schools, which we are building as compartment schools with associated gymnasium as part of the Berlin School Construction Offensive, will create high-quality and educational school places(…).”

The Berlin School Construction Offensive has already been running for several years. Other construction projects we had already reported about are the new school building in Friedrichshain’s Pufendorfstraße or various school construction projects in Mitte and Kreuzberg, which can be found on our PROJECTS page.
