Eines der prominentesten Bauprojekte am Hauptbahnhof hat im Laufe der vergangenen Wochen die Hüllen fallen lassen: Die Fassaden des EDGE Grand Central sind nun vollumfänglich fertiggestellt. Nun läuft der Innenausbau des Bürobaus.
Gebäude in direkter Nachbarschaft zum Hauptbahnhof
Das Gebäude wächst direkt am Eingang zum Tiergartentunnel aus der Erde. Der Projektentwickler OVG Real Estate plant an dieser Stelle hochmoderne Büroflächen und ein Vier-Sterne-Hotel der spanischen Hotelgruppe “Barcélo”.
Konzipiert wurde das Gebäude vom Unternehmen EDGE Technologies GmbH, die in Berlin noch weitere Projekte umsetzen, unter anderem beim Bauprojekt Schöneberger Linse und an der Warschauer Brücke in Friedrichshain, wo das Unternehmen für die Planung des sogenannten “Amazon Towers” verantwortlich war.
Fertigstellung war für Ende 2020 geplant
Die Fertigstellung des aufwändigen, raumgreifenden Gebäudekomplexes am Hauptbahnhof war ursprünglich noch für 2020 erwartet. Ob dieser Zeitplan gehalten werden kann, ist derzeit aber noch nicht absehbar.
Das Unternehmen EDGE Technologies beschreibt das Projekt in eigenen Worten wie folgt: “Das neben dem Berliner Hauptbahnhof gelegene EDGE Grand Central ist das erste deutsche Gebäude, das mit den Vorzertifikaten Gold nach dem WELL Building Standard und Platin durch die DGNB ausgezeichnet wurde und wird als das intelligenteste und innovativste Bürogebäude Deutschlands geliefert.”
Innovatives und energieschonendes Bauen
Das Unternehmen EDGE Technologies verfolgt bei der Entwicklung seiner Gebäue den Ansatz und das Ziel, Treibhausgasemissionen und Materialabfälle zu verringern. Der Energieverbrauch der Gebäude soll im Vergleich zu üblichen Bürobauten signifikant minimiert werden. Auch die verwendeten Baustoffe und Technologien sind auf Nachhaltigkeit und Innovation ausgerichtet.
Das EDGE Grand Central wird das erste Gebäude in Berlin sein, welches im Praxistest beweisen kann, ob das Konzept von EDGE auch im alltäglichen Bürobetrieb funktioniert. Ein spannendes Experiment, welches wir gern weiter begleiten werden. Der Hauptbahnhof bekommt mit dem EDGE Grand Central in jedem Fall ein vor allem optisch anspruchsvolles Nachbargebäude.
One of the most prominent construction projects at the central station has dropped its wraps in the course of the past few weeks: The facades of the EDGE Grand Central are now completely finished. Now the interior finishing of the office building is underway.
BUILDING IN THE DIRECT VICINITY OF THE central STATION
The building grows out of the earth directly at the entrance to the Tiergarten tunnel. The project developer OVG Real Estate is planning ultra-modern office space and a four-star hotel of the Spanish hotel group “Barcélo” at this location.
The building was designed by the company EDGE Technologies GmbH, which is also implementing other projects in Berlin, including the Schöneberger Linse construction project and the Warschauer Brücke in Friedrichshain, where the company was responsible for planning the so-called “Amazon Tower“.
COMPLETION WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE END OF 2020
The completion of the elaborate, spacious building complex at the main station was originally expected to be completed in 2020. Whether this schedule can be met, however, is not yet foreseeable.
The company EDGE Technologies describes the project in its own words as follows: “The EDGE Grand Central, located next to Berlin’s main train station, is the first German building to be awarded the precertificates Gold according to the WELL Building Standard and Platinum by the DGNB and will be delivered as the most intelligent and innovative office building in Germany”.
INNOVATIVE AND ENERGY-SAVING CONSTRUCTION
EDGE Technologies’ approach and goal in developing its buildings is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and material waste. The energy consumption of the buildings should be significantly minimized compared to conventional office buildings. The building materials and technologies used are also geared towards sustainability and innovation.
The EDGE Grand Central will be the first building in Berlin that can prove in practical tests whether the EDGE concept also works in everyday office operations. An exciting experiment, which we will be happy to continue to support. With the EDGE Grand Central, the central station will in any case have a neighboring building that is above all visually sophisticated.
