Auferstanden aus Ruinen: Die Eröffnung des Humboldt Forums

ENGLISH VERSION: BELOW

Around 70 years after the destruction of the historic Berlin City Palace by the SED regime, the partial opening of the rebuilt palace building takes place today.

Due to Corona, the partial opening of the future “Humboldt Forum” will only take place digitally. The day, which is so important for the historical center of Berlin and the cultural landscape of the capital, must therefore be carried out virtually.

OPENING 70 YEARS AFTER THE DESTRUCTION

So the building is finished and also some of the exhibitions and program offers would be open for the first visitors. However, due to the worldwide pandemic, Berliners and guests from all over the world will have to be patient until they can explore and experience the “new” Berlin City Palace in its entirety.

The core element of the digital opening, which will begin in the evening at 7 p.m., will be a livestream directly from the Humboldt Forum. Presenter Mitri Sirin will take the virtually connected guests on a tour behind the still closed gates.

FROM 7 PM: LIVESTREAM FROM THE HUMBOLDT FORUM

Short interviews and greetings from Minister of State Monika Grütters, General Director Hartmut Dorgerloh, archaeologist George Abungu, author Andrea Wulf, and conversations with artists Kang Sunkoo and Tim Trantenroth are planned.

All areas and wings of the Humboldt Forum are scheduled to open by the end of 2021. It is hoped that this important cultural building can then be visited in real life by culture enthusiasts and guests.
